Great. I was really urgently waiting for a database program that allows the user to define fields and field types. The only real database so far avaliable was iDB datamaster and it does NOT allow user-defined databases.

I haven’t bought your app yet because one feature is missing: I have several CSV files on my dektop cpmputer and don’t want to re-type. It would be nice to have a desktop Mac OS back-end and syncing, or at least the possibility to transfer CSVs and import them on the phone. Any plans?

iSort V1.0 does not allow to load or save csv files, but this is a feature I’m working on. I’m just trying to find the best (and easier, from the user point of vue) way to do that.

In one way or another, this feature will be present in iSort V1.1.

Just saw your app at the store and was delighted, as it truly meets a need. I started thinking about all the various ways I could use it. But then realized— what happens if the phone crashes due to some other misbehaving app? Odds are that I’d lose all the data I entered into iSort. So, for that reason, I’m forced to bypass it until some version of sync is made available.

what a great program!

2 things that prevent me from bying at the moment:

1) Like Karsten Seiferlin I would be pleased to use my CSV-Files! But please make a solution, that is possible for windows too, perhaps download from an internet adress, like the iPhone program ‘CSV-Touch’?
2) The question of backup. Is there a backup when syncronisation to iTunes? That would be ok for me, but ist is nessacary to have a backup, in the case of a crash!

Is it possible to support german in one of the next versions? Would be great!

- I can’t speak german at all, I’m afraid. But if you know someone that can translate iSort from french or english to german, it’s ok with me.

- Import and export will work with mac os, windows and linux, don’t worry !

- When iTunes saves the iphone contents, I believe datas for all applications are saved too.

I’m excited about this release, but I couldn’t get much info out of the writeup on the iTunes App store.

How many databases can I have simultaneously? Is there a record limit? What field types are supported (integer, text, date, time, checkbox, pulldown, radio, etc?) Do all dBs need to have the same structure? Can I import/Export to CSV.

I would hesitate to purchase a program without import/export because of the number of apps whose data has been wiped during upgrades. I’ve even had 2 physical hardware failures on iTouch, but it was due to firmware bugs. The devices wouldn’t even restore.

CSV import because I am not really excited about typing on the iPhone. It’s slow and gimmicky for anyone with a keyboard handy. It would be an okay tool to edit records.

I think it would be a good idea to have an english description on the (german, english, …) App Store, because most most people outside france will not understand french!

Will it be possible to have sections/levels (?)

So when I start iSort I won’t see all of my databases, but i can choose, that I want to see my job / privat / project A / project B, … list of databases.
All the other database programs don’t have this extra level, but I miss it very much, because, if you have many databases it sometimes is confusing to find the right one, so it would be a great feature to select, wich list of databases (job / privat / project A / project B, …) you want to see.

There is an english description in the app store, but for a reason I can’t understand, it does not shows up for everybody. I have sent an email to apple yesterday, I’m waiting for the answer.

For the English version of the field creation screen, Instead of “texte size” I suggest “Amount of Text” and the choices should be “Short” and “Long”, or “Brief” and “Extended”.

Merci pour ton appli que j’ai acquis hier

Elle est simple et intuitive mais néanmoins très complète
Je relève qques petits pbs qui “gachent” un peu l’utilisation;
– il n’est pas possible d’éditer une base (et de rajouter des champs) lorsque l’on a commencé à éditer une fiche, ceci n’est pas trop grave cependant;
– La zone de saisie s’ouvre lorsque l’on désire faire défiler une fiche, ce qui gène un peu l’utilisation, en fait le “touch” parait trop sensible ….. ça c’est plus génant;
– j’ai crée une base avec 7 champs, le 6ème champ n’affiche pas le libellé saisi à l’ouverture de la fiche ….. il faut pointer sur le champ …… pour que celui ci apparaisse;
– certains caractères (j’ai testé avec “l’apostrophe”) ne sont pas acceptés …… car ils ne créent pas le champ.

Encore une fois merci pour cette appli et si tu peux gérer ces petits pbs, ce sera super.

Est-il prévu par la suite les fonctions suivantes:
-Import/Export de la totalité ou individuel des base de données sur PC/Mac (je suis sur mac)
-l’ajout d’éléments liste défilente (ex pour base de liste dvd ; genre avec dans la liste les différentes genre)
-Que le trie fonctionne aussi avec les O/N et éventuellement les listes.

Ces fonctions seraient vraiment les bienvenus

-On peut tout à fait rajouter des champs a posteriori. Il suffit de rentrer dans une base et d’appuyer sur le bouton de gestion des champs, en bas à gauche. Ensuite, on peut supprimer ou ajouter des champs.
- En effet, la zone de saisie des champs “texte long” est un peu sensible, je l’ai noté dans ma liste de choses à corriger pour la 1.1
- Il y a un petit bug pour l’affichage du dernier champ, dans certains cas, en effet. Ce bug sera corrigé dans la 1.1.
- Je note le soucis des caractères non acceptés. Je vais faire de nouveaux tests en ce sens.

- L’import/export est prévu pour la V1.1 du logiciel. Elle sera compatible PC/Mac.
- L’ajout de l’objet liste est prévu aussi, peut-être dans la 1.1.
- Je note la demande pour le tri.

I must say I was very happy to see this program arrive. I am purchasing this today, even though I will need to wait for CSV import in order for it to be functional for my needs. I do want to ask if there is a search option in the database. I am going to be importing about 6000 records on one database, and need the ability to search by each field in the record or multiple fields in the record.

There is, of course, a search option. It is an all-fields search.

Hi there. I just brought your app (iSort) from App Store, and pretty happy about it. However, I would like to require a “list field” for the next version of this app. Instead of I have to put the same text over and over again, I wish I could create a field that hold template of the list available for me to choose. It would allow me to sort by displayed field as well.

And like others above me, “date field” and ability to “import/export” data would be great.

This app looks like what I’ve been wanting for a long time. My HP 200LX Palmtop had the most handy database application I’ve ever seen. This looks like a great start at a very useful application. Since I see you’re going to add a date field, can the date field have an option to auto fill with today’s date? The less I have to input the better. iPhone’s are great at retrieving data, but not so good entering it.

je voulais juste signaler quelques bugs qui pourront certainement être corrigés ???

1° Quand on a créé un champ et que l’on veut modifier une option sur le champ (longeur du texte ou taille de l’icone…), les boutons de changement sont non fonctionnels.
2° Lorsqu’on veut changer juste le titre d’un champ existant, en effet ca crée un champ suplementaire sans modifier le champ voulu.
3° parfois lorsqu’on veut modifier le titre d’un champ, cela remplace le titre d’un champ deja existant.

Voila a part ces petits problemes qui enleve de la latitude sur les modifications, c’est vraiment super.
pensez vous que cela puisse etre corrigé ?

Andreas, my todo list is long, for sure, but V1.1 will not contain all the stuff I’d like to add in this app. Unless you want this V1.1 to be out in january 2009 :p

Bravo pour cette appli que j’attendais comme le saint graal pour gérer ma cave; certains problèmes se posent néanmoins (en plus de ceux déjà évoqués plus haut). POur ne pas avoir à tout réécrire, je vous copie mon appréciation (certes un peu sévère -je me raviserai volontiers si vous me proposez une solution-) déposée sur l’appstore :

“J’attendais de cette appli de pouvoir l’utiliser pour gérer ma cave … J’ai créé champs et photos (j’attends comme d’autres de pouvoir utiliser des champs alphanumériques), puis j’ai fait des tests … et là, horreur, impossible de supprimer des fiches (en l’occurence des vins), ce qui perd tout intérêt dès lors que je ne peut connaitre en temps réel ce dont je dispose à la cave.
Je passe mon doigt sur le nom de la fiche, vois apparaître l’icône “supprimer”, qui demeure misérablement inactive.
Finalement sans intérêt donc ….. désolé !”

Suis-je le seul à ne pouvoir supprimer aucune fiche ?

D’abord, merci d’avoir acheté le logiciel.

Ensuite, si la suppression d’une fiche n’est pas possible au niveau de la liste (et c’est un oubli qui sera réparé dans la V1.1), il est évidemment possible de supprimer une fiche : il suffit de se rendre dans la fiche en question, puis d’appuyer sur la petite corbeille située en bas de l’écran.

J’espère que vous penserez à corriger cela dans votre appréciation

encore une petite remarque :
pour des livres lorsqu’il y en a par ex 10 du meme auteur,
et que l’on tri par ce champ, il apparait 10 lignes avec le nom de l’auteur.
Le super + aurait été 1 ligne avec le nom de l’auteur qui indique ou renvoie à plusieurs fiches.
euh je ne sais pas si c’est clair ???

Super, Vedvet, soyez patient, elle arrive.

Un autre très très très petit bug : quand une table est vide iSort marque ’0 fiches’ avec un s au bout , quand il y en a une iSort marque ’1 fiche’. Ce serait bien de mettre le s à partir de 2, pas de s avant (0 ou 1).

Si possible, un super bonus serait l’ajout de de type de champ (date, nombre, …) et comme déjà demandé, l’ajout de pointeur vers une autre table (un champs est rempli par choix depuis un champ d’une autre table).

Je renouvelle mon commentaire : appli très bien née, et de ce que je peux lire au-dessus , l’avenir est prometteur !

2 petites choses.
-je trouverais plus pratique de avoir un bouton éditer (a coté de la poubelle par ex) car quand ont navigue dans une fiche ,ont peut sans faire exprer modifier des info. Surtout les on/off. Et quand ont est en “lecture” d une fiche que ces champs soir de une autre couleur pour faire la différence entre lecture et modification. Sa serait vraiment bien.
- la c est plus un détail mais serait il possible d avoir une option pour changer l’icône de l’app ? Sa serait une 1er dans les app.

- Je réfléchis à cette histoire d’édition. J’ai quelques idées, je vais voir.
- Elle ne vous plaît pas mon icône ? Bon, j’imagine que l’idée est de la remplacer par une icône qui symboliserait ce que vous avez comme base. J’ai regardé, c’est pour l’instant impossible. Bien sûr, Apple le fait avec ses applications (le calendrier, par exemple), mais les outils de développement disponibles ne le permettent pas.

I bought the program today and love it so far. Like many others my only main concerns are losing the data and syncing with my pc. I found it to be a great program that I can store dvds, cds and books on that I will have with me at any one time. Is it possible for the on/off switch to have the names changed by the user. The other thing is for people to have an option of which language they would like to download it in. I’m from Australia so I was lucky that it downloaded in English, but I’m not sure if that is something you have control over. That would be my only other suggestions. Other then that the program so far is awsome and I would recommend it to anyone that has a collection of anything that (cards, dvd’s, cd’s, books ect) that would like to keep it on hand all the time.

CSV import/export are, as you know, scheduled for V1.1.
I’d like to add that iSort datas are saved when you sync with iTunes. More over, Time Machine, from Mac OS X 10.5.5, backups iphone datas.

Nevertheless, I understand your concern, just wait for iSort V1.1

lorsqu’on a plusieurs bases de données, cela serait bien de pouvoir les classer dans l’ordre que l’on veut et non pas de garder l’ordre alphabetique.
Est ce qu’il vaut mieux attendre la prochaine version pour continuer a remplir les bases ?

as I was looking for a database for my iPod, I was very lucky when I found isort! Thank you very much!
what I miss is following:
- further types of data eg integer numbers
- dates
- not only jpg but eg pdf
- the possibility to save data on a PC (sync is not so important for me, because I only want to use it on my iPod)
- the possibilty of choosing the data which is displayed (like in tables)

maybe you want to or can realize it in one of the next updates…?!

Dates, import/export will be available in iSort 1.1.
More fields types will come with iSort 1.2.
And you can allready choose which data to display in iSort 1.1.

yes, I can choose the data which I want to be displayed, but I meant something different (problem of language )
for me it would be very nice to see more than one datatype in the overview.
in my case of a music database eg “titel”, “componist”, “playtime”… (like in an excelsheet)

further more maybe, if a filter is set only the filtered data…

But these are only wishes! I’m very happy with your isort in anyway! thank you!

What about cross-table links? You call iSort a database manager. To me, the difference between a database manager and a list manager is that the database manager lets me create dependencies between lists. I.e. – in your books example, you have a “Writer” field, but it’s just text. In what I consider a database, this would be a link to the “name” field(s) of a Writers table, which would then have information about the writer. Entry would be a scroll wheel or popup list of writers currently in the Writers table. A true killer app would even let the “Writers” table be a view of the address book with “Writer” in the “Occupation” slot, but that would be breaking new ground, and I’m certainly interested in an application that has links, even without views.

I understand your concern, but my goal with iSort is to provide a database manager for everyone, even for people who have no knowledge of database managers at all. However, I will provide, in the future, links between tables, don’y worry. I’m just taking my time, reading comments, listening to people, in order to go in the right direction with future upgrades. I don’t want iSort to become a hard to use app, even if it’s powerfull. I want to keep a right balance between ergonomy and power.

Est-ce que dans la v1.1 il sera possible d’avoir des champs numériques (pour trier ensuite dessus) et des champs à plusieurs valeurs (quelques valeurs définies, comme dans une drop down list).

En ce qui concerne le champ numérique, vous pouvez commencer à entrer des valeurs avec iSort 1.0 / 1.1, il sera possible de transformer un champ texte en champ numérique.
Pour les champs à plusieurs valeurs, ce sera pour la V1.2.

I am embarrassed to admit this, but I still haven’t figured out how to use the on/off field. It is not included in the “displayed fields” list, and a search does not seem to reveal it. I looked at the material available on this website, but found nothing. Help, Frédéric: how do we use the on/off switch?

Hum, maybe we’re dealing here with another evidence of the poor localization of iSort 1.0… You should find the On/off switch in the “New field” screen, behind the “Y/N”(YES/NO) button.

My question was unclear. I understand how to create a y/n field: the localization is fine. But I do not understand how to use the field after I create it. Supposing a database has 10 records with “off” and 5 with “on”: how do I use that data? Can I sort using the off/on field? Can I search for records that have “off” or “on” selected? Or is the y/n switch just something that I observe in each individual record?

Yes/No fields cannot be accessed yet. As you say, it’s only something you observe.
