iSort V1.42 is a database manager, a software which allows to manage records, and then browse and search those records.

When iSort is launched for the first time, it indicates the buttons you have to push by making them glow. (for now snapshots shows the french version of iSort, but I’ll put english snapshots asap)

One clic on the glowing “+” is all it takes to create our first database

My database is called “Ma Base”. It shows up in my databases list, with 0 records. Please note the “Do not display” switch, it allows to hide the base in the main list. This option makes sense with lists, as we will see in a moment.

Let’s enter this database by tapping its name.

Because it is our first database, iSort makes, once again, the appropriate button glow. One tap on this button will allow us to create our fields. We’ll see later it’s possible to import a CSV file by taping the “wifi” button on the right.

To create a new field, just push the green “+” button.

iSort allows to create text, pictures, Y/N (booleans), date, numeric, lists and tables fields. Text field can be short or long, and typed to web, mail, or telephone.

The Numeric field.

The Y/N field.

Picture field can be little, medium or large.

The Date field.

The Lists field. This field uses datas from another base to display the list. In the example above, we use a base called “belts”, and we want to display the field called “Color”. We can order the list using a field, we have chose here the well named “Order” field.

The Table field. This field allows to display another base into the present base, and link those two using a field. In the example above, we display a base called “Students”, and we link this base with the field “Class”.

In this example, I’ve create one text field, one picture field, one Y/N field, one date field, one numeric field and one list field. You can easely reorder the fields by taping and holding the right extremity of each one. After the fields creation, let’s push the OK button.

Our database is obviously empty, we need to fill it by pushing the “+” button.

iSort shows the fields just created, now all we have to do is to start entry our datas.

When tapping a text field, the keyboard shows up. The texte field scrolls to the top of the screen in order to remain visible. The arrows buttons allows to jump to the previous or next field.

To add a photo to a photo field, just tap it.

On iPhone, you can take a picture with the camera, or choose a picture in the photo album. On iPod Touch, you can only choose a picture in the photo album.

We chose a photo.

Here’s how to change a date field

And here’s a numeric field.

This is how iSort displays a list.

Finally, here is a list of students for a class.

Please notice the OK button, which allows to save the record. You are free to cancel what you did by taping the top right button. The buttons at the bottom of the screen allows, when it is possible, to go to the previous or the next record (the arrows), to delete the record (the trash can) or to create a new record (the “+”)

Taping the OK button creates the record, and takes us back to the list screen.

The Eye button allows to choose the fields to display in the list. Please read the documentation (it will soon be available in english).

Three fields and a picture.

The field on the top allows to search into the records. Search is performed in all the base fields

In order to import or export CSV files, and to manage databases on ones computer, iSort comes with a built-in web server. To launch it, just push the wifi button

All you need is to follow the instructions on the screen to connect your computer to the iSort built-in web server
